Uckfield U3A

Walking for Pleasure

The walking for pleasure group meets once a month when a guided walk takes place at various locations throughout East Sussex. The walks are from three to five miles and of varying degrees of arduousness. Details and locations can be obtained from the Uckfield U3A news letter and further details can be found in the “This Month” page of this web site,.

In the event of the weather looking decidedly unfriendly, a final decision will be made by the leader at 8.30 am on the morning of the walk and if you have any doubts at all, please telephone the leader between 8.30 am and 9.00 am on the morning of the walk.

Unless advised otherwise, we meet on the 2nd Thursday each month and all walks start at 10.30 am.

The following walks are planned - subject to weather conditions. All walks normally start at 10.30 on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Any variations are highlighted.

More and more public house owners are asking for anticipated numbers at least 24 hours in advance – for those intending to do the walk please e-mail me, or phone, on the Tuesday before the walk so that I have a rough idea of the numbers on the walk.

Thursday 10 May, 201
Rescheduled to Thursday 24th May (See Below)

For car share, meet in Batchelor Way, Uckfield, at 10.00, or go direct to Memorial Car Park, Tunbridge Wells Road, Mayfield (50 yards north of High Street for a 10.30 start. The walk goes along part of Mayfield High Street before heading south crossing fields and streams. This walk (distance of 4.8 miles) has a total ascent / descent of 538 feet and includes several stiles and is fairly challenging. On return to Mayfield, we will head for a nearby pub for much needed refreshment.

As the weather for the scheduled walks in April and May was so disappointing, I have decided to schedule the Mayfield walk for Thursday 24 May 2012 (10.30 start). I realize that it is short notice but our opportunities for decent weather seem to be few and far between. If you can make it, then please confirm by e-mail or telephone so that I at least have some idea of possible numbers - kind regards, Graham and Chris

This walk is quite demanding, but has beautiful long distant views.

If weather conditions look ‘dodgy’, a final decision will be made by the leader at 08.30 – if in doubt, please ring the leader between 08.30 and 09.00.

I suggest that you take a weather check on www.metcheck.co.uk - a site that seems to be very accurate in predicting weather conditions.
If in doubt, please ring the leader between 08.30 and 09.00.
