Our Spring session started with us reading Great Expectations. The recent TV serial came under discussion but the original text won! The Hare with the Amber Eyes was a memoir which made us think about family, country and money and then when we read The Grapes of Wrath we thought about the lack of money, exploitation of the poor and degradation of the environment. That book was written in the Thirties but still had great relevance today.
We lightened the mood by reading Mapp and Lucia which, while often funny, is still quite a comment on human nature.
We would be glad to welcome any new readers to our group. We would particularly like to see our male membership rise above the two that we already have. We read the planned texts before meeting and then discuss them. Uckfield Library is very helpful in obtaining copies for us. For any further information on our future programme please contact:
Our Spring/Summer 2012 programme is shown below:
As usual, an eclectic mix for May and June, after which we have a break for the Summer holidays, resuming in September when we will have six more books to read in the Autumn.
