Computer

When I looked at the list of members that were interested in joining the group in September, I was somewhat perturbed
to see 32 names! How would I accommodate them all in my house? In the event the maximum that turned up was 15.
We meet twice a month at my house and spend about 2 hours together. I have 5 computers and some members bring
their laptops, so we have more than adequate resources. After a brief introduction we break down to various groups and
concentrate on a particular subject.

Beginners are most welcome. They are introduced to various computers and shown basic procedures such as turning
the computer on and off and loading specific programmes. The pros and cons of various programmes are pointed out.
We have had success with simple word processing, compiling a data base, and the formation of a spreadsheet.
Another group has had success in compiling e-mails with attachments and sending them and also has had a rewarding
time logging-on to and using the internet.

A further group has dabbled in digital photography. Photographs have been sorted in chronological or subject order and
a certain amount of digital manipulation has been undertaken with some very satisfactory results.

One of our members showed me how to use skype - frightening!

The group has acquired some computer programmes and we have also purchased some memory sticks so that work
undertaken during the group session can be transferred to a computer at home.

We do not have a structured course but do what the group want to do on the day. There is plenty of banter and good
humour and everybody is invited to take part and try their hand. I feel we have an enjoyable time and we all learn from
one another. New members are always welcome and also those who have knowledge of a specific computer function.
