Monday 16th April (Change of date from normal second Monday in the month) “All That Heaven Allows” Jane Wyman & Rock Hudson star in this film made in 1955. What is on the surface a glossy tear-jerker with high production values is underneath what film historians interpret to be a scathing attack on snob-bery, class and the values of “The American Dream”.
Monday 14th May This month we shall be visiting The Oast House Cinema, in Tunbridge Wells and we will be the guests of film historian Barry Littlechild. The choice of film has been left to Barry, who always provides us with an interesting afternoon of entertainment.
There will be a few empty seats this month and if there is anybody interested in joining us they should contact me for directions.
Monday 11th June “Far From Heaven” The clue is in the title. This month we shall be watching the 2002 remake of April’s film which stars Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid. It has all the lushness of its predecessor’s production values and is seen as a pastiche of the 1950’s woman’s film. The plot introduces subjects that were a taboo at the time the original film was made. I hope this provides an interesting insight into the changing times we live
